Going home..

Home is where the heart is, right? Doesn’t matter where it is in the world, it’s the one place you feel truly comfortable, surrounded by those you love. You could live a life of poverty, with no roof over your head, yet you still have a home. It may change over the years, it may not, but when times get tough there is only one place you want to be.

You miss the little things at first; the freedom, the familiarity, the convenience. Then you start to miss the people; your family, friends, partner. As the days pass, you realize the true extent of your longing for one location – reverted back to the childhood feeling of craving your mothers attention. It’s innate, we cannot do anything but miss it, upon arrival we can do nothing but bask in comfort and knowledge that we are safe.

A day before you return home – after months of longing – there’s a nervous excitement to it. What if somethings changed? What if I’ve changed so much that it wont feel the same? I have to come clean to the people at home, they need to know what’s driven me mad purely because it’s going to affect my future. When I tell them, will I still be able to call it my home? If someone asked me where I wanted to be – anywhere on the planet – I wouldn’t choose Italy or the Bahamas. I wouldn’t choose a yacht in the Caribbean, I wouldn’t choose having a backstage drink with my favorite band. I would choose home. I would choose my friends, my girl, because at the end of the day, they are the real paradise. A smile off someone you love is a moment you can cherish for a lifetime – it really is the little things.

Home is where things are easiest for us. Where we are familiar with our surroundings, know where to avoid. Home is where we can be ourselves in front of the very few people on planet earth we feel comfortable with. We don’t have to hide (as much), and when we have bad days our mood can be saved by the simple pleasantries of our natural environment. Home is our greatest form of therapy.

When your home stops being the place you long for, becoming a place you loathe, then that’s the power above telling you that it is no longer your home, and it is time to move on. It can be anywhere, as long as you are happy. For the weak mental health within us all, finding our real home is the greatest step in becoming happy again.

I am home now. I am with my people. May my life head in the right direction.

As always,

Peace.

  1. This bit that sadly resonates most with me is the last part …

… finding my real home is my challenge.

  2. You lucky person! Some of us have no home to return to, are not welcome there, or wouldn’t dream of ever returning. Don’t take these things for granted.
